In the deepest slums, where people are sub-living, where no one dares to go. There lives a very poor, wrinkly-faced, humpbacked old lady.
Her door knocked, there was a young man. She welcomed him and insisted she’d make him a cup of tea. The man scanned her place with the tip of his eye, he noticed how small it is. It’s just about one small room that barely can take a bed for her tiny body, and a small TV set hanging by the window.
She started talking about her 300 LE monthly pension after her late husband, how it’s excessive, and more than what she needs.
She took 50 LE telling him that it’s sufficient for her rest of the month then handed him the rest, telling him to go buy blankets for those homeless with no shelter or money.
The young man was actually coming from a charitable organization upon her call earlier. He refused to take her donation, cause he couldn’t believe that the same people he and his organization were meant to help are the very same who offer money and consider those in need.
She started convincing him with how she’s lucky that at least she has a place to warm her up at night, that all she gotta do is close her door and sleep. That some people are out there suffering of the weary cold, that no one dies of hunger but people actually die of being cold, all the time. That she’s OK with what she has, but unlike her, they don’t have a room or a door.
She urged him to hurry up, cause some people do need help before the night comes.
Later on, the organization tried to contact her to provide her with a better place or food or more money. And to get her to accept, they pretend she won that money. Little did they knew, she refused to take any. AND asked them to contact the ‘charitable organization’, to give all the money to those in need.
I wonder what it takes for someone to be THAT selfless and give unconditionally.

Those people always fascinate me I can not believe how such people exist with the rest of the world being greedy and forever in content with what God has given them. Always asking for more. But I guess the key word here is being content and believing in what you have is enough and how so many people have less and that you should be grateful. Thanks for the inspiring story that made me feel i could be one of those ungrateful suds who need to look at what they have and be grateful
We should be allowed to get jealous of those people, right? I only wish the world would have more of those.
